The 2021 Met Gala required all guests to be fully vaccinated in accordance with New York City’s mandate. Due to event’s time of year (it is usually held on the first Monday in May) many celebrities were unable to attend due to work scheduling or were simply not on the guest list due to capacity restrictions. Bella Hadid who has walked the red carpet every year between 2015 and 2019 was notably absence and while social media was unable to discuss her chosen look for the evening, they instead turned to why she was not there.
Fans were quick to speculate that it was due to her vaccination status. After all, Nicki Minaj had taken to social media to spread misinformation on why she hadn’t had the jab.
Taking to Instagram, Hadid shared an image of herself getting the vaccine. And captioned the photo with just a little sarcasm: “For anyone concerned.”
Hadid hasn’t directly addressed the reason as to why she did not attend.
Minaj caused internet hysteria after she published a tweet outlining her reasoning for not only going to the Met Gala, but why she has chosen not to get vaccinated.
“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met,” the rapper tweeted mere hours before the event. “if I get vaccinated it won’t [be] for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one.”

Other celebrities that did not attend the annual soirée included Beyoncé who was on vacation in Europe, Zendaya who was filming Euphoria, Sarah Jessica Parker due to filming And Just Like That and Harry Styles who is currently on tour.
