Overnight, the MONCLER GENIUS WORLD TOUR 19–20 came to its spectacular close at the Musée National Picasso in Paris. The blockbuster world tour – which saw Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Moncler Genius 1 collection travel the world connecting couture with culture via a series of creative symposiums – had its final (and very fitting) stop at Haute Couture Fashion Week 2020, drawing the curtain on what has been an electrifying global tour.

A wonderful collision of language, color and the grandiose proportion of couture, the focused collection was hauntingly beautiful, a deeply poetic expression of Moncler’s famed puffer.

Recalling African textiles, and created in collaboration with model, Liya Kebede, who is an active supporter of African artisans with her label, Lemlem, traditional patterns were employed in brilliant ballgowns with impossible trains, hooded jackets and sculptural capes.

Enveloping the body both poignantly and theatrically, Piccioli played on unexpected duality, of couture and functionality, of couture and streetwear and of couture and textile – both in the form of nylon laqué, the only fabric used in the entire collection, and African textile (although rendered in the former, its DNA was present).

An unlikely yet nonpareil matrimony, differences and diversities diverged seamlessly and tied back to the sensibility of Pierpaolo Piccioli, to the ethos of Liya Kebede, and to the functionality of Moncler. A multicultural vision of inclusivity that augmented Moncler’s broader idea of bringing designer visions to a transversal audience, 1 MONCLER PIERPAOLO PICCIOLI is as poetic as it is powerful and a true masterpiece of the modern fashion era.
