When I was a child, playing in the snow was never really my thing because dressing for the activity was a serious struggle. My mother would dress me in a ski suit so thick that I could barely raise an arm to throw a snowball. That said, you can call me scarred when it comes to dressing for the snow, especially if we’re talking about puffy jackets or pants. But when I saw Ashley Graham’s latest winter photoshoot, I couldn’t help but feel like it’s time to give snow style another chance.
Celebrity hairstylist David Lopez was the eye behind the camera, and NYC-based fashion stylist Steven La Fuente was the brains behind the ensemble. Graham wore a see-through mesh mock-neck top from French label Hervé Léger, styled with her favorite black floral nursing bra from Le Mystère underneath. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model teamed these pieces with wide-leg army green pants from NYC-based vintage shop Church Street Surplus and a padded Fenty jacket to match. She completed the edgy snow look with black lace-up snow boots from Hoka One One.
“My inspiration behind this look was all about practicality,” La Fuente tells GRAZIA. “The Hervé Léger top is great because she can easily lift it when pumping or feeding her son Isaac. Her personal style isn’t about trends, so I wanted to include faves from her closet (the Fenty jacket) as well as new old faves like her vintage military field trousers from 1951 via Church Street Surplus.”
If you’re thinking about adding some army green to your wardrobe, La Fuente suggests you do so…stat. “Army green is definitely going to be big this winter as it always has been,” he says. “It acts as a perfect neutral tone that works with practically anything.”
