No, that’s not Anne Hathaway staking her claim as the definite Versace muse in the Italian luxuriate’s new ‘Icons’ campaign. The trained eye is aware it’s actually Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi, Princess Of Genovia. Or more accurately, Mia in her pre-palace makeover stage, complete with signature voluminous curls thick enough to break hairbrushes.

Of course, with the film celebrating its 23rd anniversary—and Hathaway confirming a third instalment of the franchise is in the works—it’s only fitting that Donatella Versace encouraged Hathaway to emulate her beloved breakout role for an editorial championing icons.

The campaign sees Hathaway pose in front of industry veteran photography duo Mert & Marcus wearing pieces from the fashion house’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection. Versace’s leather corset dresses and daring double denim pieces encrusted with Medusa motif buttons have become a go-to for Hathaway as she entered her sartorial revival.

But make no mistake, the Hatha-naissance is showing no signs of slowing down, especially with the release of back-to-back deliciously camp films, the 1950s American housewife psychological thriller Mothers’ Instinct alongside Jessica Chastain and the Harry Styles-fanfiction-inspired romance The Idea of You with Nicholas Galitzine.

But before those films launch in theatres, Versace offered another dynamic on-screen pairing in the form of Hathaway’s Icons campaign co-star, Academy Award winner Cillian Murphy.

Speaking on the casting, Versace herself explained the pair’s icon status came from their shared spirit with the brand. “Strong, direct, iconic. For me, Anne and Cillian are two of the best actors of today,” Versace said before adding, “Exceptionally talented and kind people I admire and respect, looking their best.” Receiving Donatella’s purple heart emoji stamp of approval? What’s more iconic than that?
