Andra Day is setting the record straight regarding recent rumors that she and 57-year-old actor Brad Pitt are dating. The United States Vs. Billie Holliday star, 36, is completely baffled by the rumor and how it popped up, saying that the two don’t even really know each other.

Day, who took home the 2021 BET Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of singer Billie Holliday, said she received a phone call from her sister asking if her the two were involved. But as any down-to-earth celebrity would do, she cooly went with it and entertained the humor of the rumor.

“Oh my gosh, child, especially because we’ve never met,” Day said in an interview. “So I was like, ‘Oh, alright.’ My sister actually hit me up after, she was like, ‘You met Brad Pitt?’ I said, ‘I guess so. I guess we did.'”

I get it, everyone is constantly scratching for any inkling that a new, iconic celebrity duo has popped up. But this one seems a little far-fetched as far as evidence goes. A unnamed source reportedly revealed that “Andra has been on Brad’s radar for a while. They were flirting backstage and are believed to have swopped numbers” after they were seen “flirting” at the 2021 Oscars.

Sure, I’ll take the word of an unnamed source who claimed that the actors “are believed” to have swapped numbers. It doesn’t take a seasoned journalist to poke holes in that logic.

“We’re not dating. We don’t even know each other,” Day said. “It is hilarious. It was thin air. Somebody was bored that day.”

All jokes aside, Day had nothing but nice things to say about Pitt. “He’s great, though, super talented, wonderful.”

Day has better things to focus on anyway, her powerful display as Billie Holliday in United States Vs. Billie Holliday was the talk of the town at the 2021 BET Awards. She perfectly encapsulated the grace and grittiness of the singer at the height of her fame, through all of her successes, trials and tribulations.

“It’s our peers and our people, and I think especially with a movie like United States Vs. Billie Holliday, Lee [Daniels] really made the movie for us,” Day said. “That’s who was on set and that’s who was in our hearts and in our minds when we made it. So for our peers to say, ‘We love this. This is special to us,’ it means everything.”
