Cannes Glitz & Giving: A Look at the Best-Dressed on the Star-Studded Red Carpet of the 2024 amfAR Gala Cannes
This year's amfAR Gala was one for the books, including iconic looks from celebrities on the red carpet and $16 million raised for AIDS research.
The 30th annual amfAR Gala Cannes was a night of unforgettable fashion, captivating performances, and unwavering dedication to a vital cause. Held at the iconic Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, the event raised a staggering $16 million to support amfAR’s fight against HIV/AIDS.
The evening unfolded under the leadership of actress and philanthropist Demi Moore, who reminisced about her surprise hosting role at the 1997 amfAR Gala — originally meant for the legendary Dame Elizabeth Taylor. Music filled the air with electrifying performances by Jess Glynne, Nick Jonas (including a surprise duet with brother Joe!), and the one-and-only Cher, who closed the show with a medley of her iconic hits.
A Night of Fashion Fairy Tales
A highlight of the evening was a captivating fashion show curated by the ever-influential Carine Roitfeld. Titled “Fairy Tales Collection,” the show transported guests back to their childhood with one-of-a-kind pieces from fashion houses like Chanel, Dior, and Versace. All latex couture was provided by Atsuko Kudo, while dazzling jewelry came courtesy of Chopard.
Beyond the Runway: Raising the Stakes
The night wasn’t just about glamour though; it was about raising crucial funds. A spirited auction, led by the inimitable Simon de Pury, saw fierce bidding wars for a variety of unique items, including artwork by Kenny Scharf and Damien Hirst, an Andy Warhol print, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience with Cher herself.
The event also paid homage to the countless talents lost to AIDS in the early days of the epidemic with a moving video presentation. This poignant moment served as a powerful reminder of the fight’s significance.
The Best Dressed Looks
Before the night was underway, the red carpet buzzed with captivating looks from A-listers as they arrived dressed to the nines. Fashion fanatics have been raving about Elsa Hosk’s black and white Nina Ricci Spring 2024 Feather Trim gown and Heidi Klum’s peach Lever Couture Fall 2023 showstopping number.
Other best-dressed looks included Michelle Yeoh’s elegant black Bottega Veneta Fall 2024 dress paired with dazzling diamond jewelry and Paris Jackson’s black sculptural gown from the Simone Rocha for Jean Paul Gaultier Spring/Summer 2024 Couture collection.
