SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: Designer Alice McCall is an Australian designer that has long been called on when it comes to the perfect party dress. Known for tiny hemlines, structured shapes ,and dance floor-friendly embellishments, the local fashion house is synonymous with a good time, so it made perfect sense that the Resort 2022 collection was titled ‘Discoteca.’
Complete with feathers, midriffs, two-piece pastel skirt suits and a helping of 70s paisley prints, it was a fun, frivolous, and downright fabulous return to Afterpay Australia Fashion Week – especially after the pandemic forced the label into voluntary administration mid last year. But you can’t hold a good thing down, and today was proof the iconic Australian label is back (and bolder than ever).
Complementing the spirited sartorial offering was a killer beauty aesthetic. Makeup Director Carol Mackie for MAC Cosmetics put her talent on show, crafting an individual look for every single model. No color combination was off the table; we saw fluffy lilac shadow, orange lips dusted with gold, heavy false lashes, minty green eyes and exaggerated liner. It was a perfect 70s beauty fantasy mashup – lurid colors, strong features, and a whole lot of glamour.
The hair was equally as marvelous. Director Kieran Street for Wella Professional served up big, full, luxurious waves. Everything was dialed up; volume, shine, side-swept curtain bangs. GHD hot tools were used to create movement dependent on the model’s individual hair texture. And as any party girl knows, the styles were set with generous helpings of high gloss hairspray.
