Vincent Kartheiser and Alexis Bledel arrive at the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards held at The Shrine Auditorium on January 27, 2013 in Los Angeles, California.

After eight years of marriage, actors Alexis Bledel and Vincent Kartheiser are getting divorced. The Mad Men star filed from divorce from The Handmaid’s Tale actress on Wednesday via the New York’s Putnam County Court. People reported the news with a confirmation from Bledel’s rep. The couple share a son, who was born in 2015.

Bledel, 40, and Kartheiser, 43, were first introduced on the set of the AMC drama series Mad Men in 2012. Kartheiser starred as the head-strong Pete Campbell while Bledel portrayed his mistress Beth Dawes in the show’s fifth season.

The pair went on to say “I do” in real life in a private ceremony in 2014. Ever since, the Titans actor and the Gilmore Girls alum have kept all details of their relationship tightly under wraps.

Kartheiser told Vulture of his private relationship in 2014, “It’s something I realized about the most important things in my life. If I share them with the world and I open that door to their fuming anger that they need to get out or their adoration that they want to flaunt, it lessens it,” Kartheiser said. “It cheapens it; it weakens it. And it’s magical, love, and all of that is profoundly spiritual, and it just doesn’t feel right.”

Scott Patterson, who played Luke alongside Bledel in Gilmore Girls told Glamour in 2016, that Bledel “really blossomed as a woman and now she’s a proud new mother and married and happy.”

In May, Bledel announced her departure from the Hulu original series The Handmaid’s Tale, revealing she would not be returning for the upcoming season 5. Having portrayed Emily (aka. Ofglen) since the series’ debut in 2017, Bledel’s run has earned her four Emmy nominations and one win.

As for any other pending projects, Bledel, Blake Lively, America Ferrera, and Amber Tamblyn have expressed their desire to film a third iteration of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
