At a recent show in Las Vegas, powerhouse Adele was moved to tears when she spotted an audience member holding up a photo of his wife on his phone as the singer sang her song “When We Were Young.”

You look like a movie/You sound like a song,” she sang as the man — who appeared to be by himself and with tears in his eyes — held his phone up, and then held his heart.

Adele believed the man was widowed and later dedicated her mega-track “Hello” to him.

“This is for you, Sir, who is showing me his wife on his phone,” she said mid-song.

Later, the singer stopped to address the audience, holding back a flood of tears.

“When I walk through the crowd, I wish you could see what I could see,” she began.

“I see little stories of people happening and there’s a man — can you see him holding his phone up? I think that’s his wife on his phone and I don’t think she’s here. And it just really moved me and I think you’re here on your own. I’m so sorry for your loss”.

“I see little pockets of people’s lives as I walk through and it’s so beautiful,” she added.

Wearing an embellished black custom gown by Stella McCartney, Adele shone as bright as the lights of the city.

“When I was asked by Adele to do a dress for her, I was so excited, especially for the Vegas show, which is so historic,” McCartney said of the gown. “To be part of that is a huge moment, and I really wanted to celebrate. I wanted to celebrate Adele and to celebrate that rocking body that she has.”

“I wanted it to have a strong silhouette and complement Adele, I wanted it to be comfortable for her.”

Adele and her stylist Jamie Mizrahi commissioned lots of luxury designers to make custom pieces for her Vegas residency (which runs until March 2023). The 34-year-old singer wears each piece for a whole weekend, and it is then archived. See some others below which include — in order — Nina Ricci, Givenchy and Valentino.

And if that audience member is reading this, we, too, are sorry for your loss. We love that you took your wife to see Adele, and we hope you are doing ok.
