Adele has had a tumultuous career, and a lot of the drama has stemmed from media interest in her personal life. From relentless discussion about her weight to a very public split with ex-husband Simon Konecki, the last decade has been a lot. Then, scrutiny shifted to her career, when she abruptly announced in January this year that her Las Vegas residency, a highly anticipated series of concerts, was being canceled. Now, Adele has finally addressed what happened with the controversial cancelation in a new interview, along with some very sweet insights into her blossoming relationship with sports agent Rich Paul.

“It was the worst moment in my career, by far,” she tells ELLE, saying she was so excited to perform the shows, but reached a point in production where she felt completely at odds with the stage design and overall energy of the residency. “It was very disconnected from me and my band, and it lacked intimacy. And maybe I tried too hard to give it those things in such a controlled environment.”

Now, she looks back on the decision with pride. “The first couple of months was really, really hard,” she explains. “I was embarrassed. But it actually made my confidence in myself grow, because it was a very brave thing to do. And I don’t think many people would have done what I did. I’m very proud of myself for standing by my artistic needs.”

She also opened up about her boyfriend of a year, Rich Paul. When asked if she was in love, she responded “Beyond,” adding “I’ve never been in love like this. I’m obsessed with him.”

Paul and Adele were friends before things took a romantic turn in 2021. Adele gushes about him in the interview, saying that he makes her feel safe and encourages her to be more spontaneous and free. While she emphasizes that her current focus is her newly reformed Vegas residency, now designed to be more intimate and Adele-like, she adds that more kids (she shares a son with Konecki) are definitely on her agenda.

“I definitely want more kids. I’m a homemaker and I’m a matriarch, and a stable life helps me with my music.” she tells ELLE. When asked about whether she’s engaged, she cryptically answers with “I’m not married” repeatedly, before laughing and saying “I’m just in loooove! I’m happy as I’ll ever be. I might as well be married.”

Have you ever felt this much joy for a celebrity you don’t even know? Honestly, could not be happier for you, Adele.
