A suede slipper, straight black trousers and a purple scarf: the cold-weather shoe even the queen of minimalism could not resist. Zoë Kravitz’s off-duty style has long followed a clear formula: sleek separates, little jewelry and, on her feet, ballet flats or minimal loafers. So when she stepped out on a New York film set in a very different pair of shoes, fashion editors noticed.
On October 12, while filming Die Alive with Riley Keough, Kravitz wore UGG’s Tasman II slippers, a $130 style, Marie Claire reports. According to the magazine, she had never been seen wearing a pair of Uggs before.
The Look on Set
Kravitz kept everything else simple and dark: a white long-sleeve shirt, black straight-leg trousers and a purple scarf. Die Alive is a romantic comedy from Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment. Keough, standing beside her, chose UGG’s Classic II short boots in black.
Marie Claire describes the slippers as a new addition to Kravitz’s “moviemaking survival kit,” and it is easy to see why. Long days on set, cold October mornings and a lot of standing around call for something warm that slips on in seconds.
What Makes the Tasman Different
The Tasman is not a classic Ugg boot. It is a low-cut suede slipper with a sheepskin-style lining and a thick sole, finished with UGG’s signature braided collar. That low profile is what makes it work in the city. It looks closer to a loafer or a mule than to a winter boot, so it pairs easily with tailored pieces.
Why It Is Replacing the Ballet Flat
Ballet flats are elegant, but they are cold and offer little support once temperatures drop. The Tasman keeps a similar low silhouette while adding warmth and comfort. It has become the shoe of choice for fashion insiders who want to stay cozy without switching to bulky boots.
Kravitz is far from the only star wearing it. Marie Claire notes that Dua Lipa, Kendall Jenner, Kaia Gerber and Mikey Madison have all been spotted in the slipper.
How to Wear It Without Looking Like You Just Left the House
The key is contrast. Pair the Tasman with structured pieces, as Kravitz did, so the outfit looks intentional rather than lazy.
With straight jeans, choose a hem that hits right at the top of the slipper and add a crisp shirt or a fine knit and a long coat. With wide trousers, let the hem fall over the back of the shoe so only the front peeks out, which keeps the line long and polished.
Stick to dark or neutral colorways, such as chestnut, black or deep brown, and add one strong accessory, like Kravitz’s purple scarf or a structured leather bag. Socks are optional, but a fine knit sock in a matching shade looks neater than a sporty one.
A Practical Note
Suede does not love rain or salt. Treat your pair with a suede protector before wearing it, and save it for dry days or quick errands rather than slushy streets.
Goodbye ballet flats, at least until spring. If Zoë Kravitz has made the switch, the $130 UGG slipper may be the easiest cold-weather upgrade of the season.
