Six Tips for Getting or Staying Fit with a Smartwatch
1. Wear It Consistently
“Smartwatches are a great help for anyone looking to get back in shape, primarily because they allow us to understand our starting point and see, in black and white, what we are actually doing.
I’m referring both to the workout mode, which records all the data from our physical activity, and to the step counter. In daily life, some people take plenty of steps, while others lead a more sedentary lifestyle. Discovering how much ‘hidden’ physical activity we do is the first step toward gaining awareness of our health status.”
2. Monitor Your Sleep
“Never underestimate the importance of sleep, as those who don’t sleep well have lower energy levels and therefore struggle more to achieve their workout goals. Sometimes, seeing sleep data clearly laid out and working to improve it can be the key to training more effectively.”
3. Perfection Isn’t Necessary
“Don’t strive to be perfect every day: the smartwatch sets daily perfection goals, but even I don’t manage to complete them all every single day—and fitness is my profession! Rest is just as important as training.”
4. Use Data for Motivation
“The primary motivation for exercising is the sense of well-being you feel after a workout, when you feel more relaxed, energized, and strong. However, seeing your workout data and how it improves over time is also incredibly motivating.”
5. Find Your Ideal Workout
“If you find the right workout for you, it will bring incredible mental benefits. Exercise releases endorphins, the happiness hormone, and every time I’m nervous and work out, my mood changes immediately.
So, find your sport, choose something you enjoy, and not only will you benefit your body, but also your mind.”
6. Balance Fitness with Other Aspects of Wellness
“Well-being is about finding a balance between exercise, time for yourself, good sleep, healthy eating, and doing everything calmly… The most common mistake is focusing only on training, but by doing so, you get stressed and don’t achieve the overall well-being, which should be the primary goal.”
