While work codes have certainly relaxed since the pandemic, getting dressed for the office is arguably the most arduous task style savants face each morning. But when you’re Rihanna, you needn’t worry about obtaining an HR violation with your business ensembles.

Indeed, being a fashion icon, beauty mogul, nine-time Grammy winner and America’s youngest self-made billionaire reaps dividends—one of them being there are no rules for what you wear. The 36-year-old proved that overnight in Los Angeles while promoting Savage x Fenty’s new collaboration with disruptive Italian brand Diesel.

For the occasion, the ultimate bad gal delivered a masterclass in boudoir dressing by wearing lacy lingerie and a vintage Fendi fur coat. In the words of Miranda Priestly: That’s all.

While GRAZIA can’t recommend this as an appropriate way of dressing for a 9-5, there is something to be gleaned from Rihanna’s risqué outfit. As she told us all those years ago at the 2014 CFDA Awards—“She can beat me, but she cannot beat my outfit”—Rihanna will rise to any style challenge, including how to dress up a sensual slip for an after-hours cocktail party.

To do so, she relied on a holy grail archival piece; a coat designed by Karl Lagerfeld in the 1980s. Pieces from the late sartorial Kaiser’s tenure at the luxuriate are few and far between. This isn’t a problem for Rihanna, however, whose vintage fashion collection also boasts a pink-and-brown cow print baguette bag that originally debuted in Fall/Winter 1999 and a quilted purple leather letterman jacket designed for Chanel’s Fall/Winter 1990 collection, just to name a few.

As for where she got her outfit inspiration from? Given we’re in the midst of a Demi Moore-aissance thanks to her unforgettable turn in The Substance, we’d contend that Rihanna has also been revisiting the actress’ body of work.

As you’ll recall, Moore made a cameo appearance as fallen angel, Madison Lee, in the 2003 sequel Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. While Moore delivered many iconic moments in the film, the one that is most seared into our collective memory is her in the floor-length duster coat, stilettos and burgundy lace underwear.

We wouldn’t be surprised if this was on Rihanna’s mood board for the soirée, but if you’re still undecided, compare the two looks for yourself below.
