A theory circulates on social media: in winter, there’s a tendency to want to find a partner, to share cozy evenings watching a movie. As temperatures drop, the desire for comfort from another person increases. This is what’s known as “Cuffing Season,” understood as “the cold months of autumn and winter are considered a particularly desirable time to engage in a romantic relationship,” according to the Oxford Languages dictionary.

Why do we want to find a partner more in winter?

The search for a partner can intensify in winter for various reasons. Firstly, colder temperatures and shorter days often encourage people to spend more time indoors, seeking warmth and companionship. Second, year-end holidays and winter celebrations create an atmosphere conducive to meetings and closeness. Some may also feel a stronger desire to share moments of comfort and intimacy during this season, and approaching the new year can lead to reflecting on one’s goals and aspirations, including in the realm of romantic relationships!

Here are the qualities singles look for in a partner in winter

A recent study conducted by the dating site Meetic sheds light on the desires and expectations of singles for the year 2023. Among the qualities deemed important by singles, sincerity and honesty seem to be paramount for a majority of respondents (55%), while respect represents 38% of the votes.

According to a survey published on Seeking.com and reported by Version Femina, the four most sought-after qualities in a partner during cuffing season are: honesty and kindness, tenderness, and humor. Interestingly, sex does not rank among the top qualities sought.
