When we step into the shower, we make sure to cover all the bases… Shampoo, check. Scrubbing every inch, check. But what about the belly button? It’s often on display in crop tops or dresses with cutouts, yet it’s an area we tend to forget about when it comes to hygiene. Surprisingly, it’s one of the dirtiest spots on our bodies.

Why Keeping Your Belly Button Clean is a Must

Even though it’s not always visible, the belly button is a magnet for dirt. It collects sweat, bits of fabric, dead skin cells, and even soap residue that we may not notice. The belly button is naturally a bit damp, and when not cleaned regularly, it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. With the combination of moisture and trapped impurities, bacteria thrive, leading to unwanted odors and the formation of “belly button lint.” Moreover, neglecting this area can lead to fungal infections, redness, and itching – definitely not okay! How to Properly Clean Your Belly Button

Remember to give it attention during every shower. Take a washcloth, add a dab of mild soap and water, and gently clean the area. Then, rinse thoroughly with the shower head. Finally, be sure to completely dry the area to prevent bacterial growth.

For a more thorough cleaning, use a cotton swab dipped in water and mild soap, and gently clean the inside. Like with the regular cleaning, rinse and dry the area well. Do this deep cleaning once a week.
