There’s been a lot of chatter lately about the status of two projects being worked on by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Together, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been developing a docuseries with Netflix (you may have heard that there’s rumors they want to edit bits from the show). Meanwhile, Prince Harry has also written a highly-anticipated memoir, and we finally know the name of the title — and just got a look at the cover.
On Thursday, Penguin Random House announced in a statement (and on social media) that the title of Prince Harry’s memoir is Spare, and will be released on January 10, 2023. “We are excited to bring to readers everywhere the remarkably personal and emotionally powerful story of Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex. For Harry, this is his story at last,” the statement read.
On the book’s website, princeharrymemoir.com, it states that it’s filled with “raw, unflinching honesty” and is a “landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”
The cover features the royal in a gray casual crewneck shirt and a necklace staring squarely at the camera. The book was originally set to publish this year, but following the death of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II on Sept. 8, the date was pushed to 2023.
On the book’s website, it states that Prince Harry will donate proceeds of sales to British charities, including Sentebale, an organization that supports vulnerable children and young people in Lesotho and Botswana affected by HIV/AIDS. He founded it with Prince Seeiso in honor of their mothers’ legacies. He’ll also donate to WellChild, which provides children and young people with complex health needs to be cared for at home instead of hospital, wherever possible.
There is still no release date set for the Netflix docuseries, but in reports earlier this month, the royals are apparently having “second thoughts” about the project. The series was initially set to come out in December to follow the latest season of The Crown but multiple insiders told Page Six that Meghan and Harry made a “dramatic u-turn.” It was also reported “there’s a lot of pressure on (Netflix CEO) Ted Sarandos who has the relationship with Harry and Meghan, to get this show finished.”
Apparently, the couple is also “keen to take out or downplay” what they initially said about other members of the royal family.
In other reports by Page Six, sources said “Harry and Meghan are having second thoughts on their own story, on their own project.”
While we wait to see what happens on the series, we’ll be pre-ordering his memoir now.
