The retailer Farfetch is enhancing its already impressive offering of fashionable finds with a brand new concept retail series dubbed, Farfetch Beat. The new shopping series will deliver exclusive limited-edition product experiences in collaboration with some of the most progressive voices in fashion and culture. First up? A special (first-ever!) collab between Peter Do and Opening Ceremony.
The two leading New York fashion favorites came together to celebrate Opening Ceremony’s 20-year anniversary. Iconic signature pieces from the label got a revamp by Do, including three takes on the OC varsity jacket. Two of the jackets come in Do’s ubiquitous “spacer” material (one in black and one in white) and a third in upcycled parachute material from Do’s first-ever runway show that took place last September. Each jacket is tagged with a number to reference the limited quantity and includes a cardholder hidden in each jacket pocket.
“We had so many vintage military parachutes left over from our first show and I thought it would be nice to repurpose them to give them new life,” Do said in a press release. “I love that the jackets are all different, with the original seams and printed text included. I’m so happy that these jackets will be worn and loved, and that they came from something that was initially meant to be discarded but are now repurposed!”
Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, Co-Founders and Creative Directors of Opening Ceremony, expressed their excitement to work with Do in the press release. “For us, Peter Do exemplifies the best in New York fashion today, and we found so much similarity in how our shared Asian heritage informs everything we both create. The Peter Do team inspires us with their incredible design skill and knowledge. We’re so excited we finally get to collaborate with our friends on this fresh take on our beloved varsity jacket.”
The Opening Ceremony x Peter Do collection sold out within minutes of going live on Wednesday. However, Farfetch Beat will continue to drop special collections with new collaborators on an ad-hoc schedule, so make sure to stay tuned for the next drop.
