Marine Serre

As we celebrate Earth Day today, eco-conscious-meets-futuristic fashion designer Marine Serre brings her upcycled, regenerative process that won her the LVMH Prize in 2017 and a nomination for The Fashion Awards of the British Fashion Council in the ‘Urban Luxury’ category, to the jewelry world. And she’s putting her own quintessential camp style to the pieces.

The Paris-based contemporary label gave forks, spoons and knives a second life in a collection aptly named, Arts de la Table. The ends of cutlery were used as the focus for clip earrings and necklaces, while the handles were upcycled into bracelets. Each piece is meant to “bring a sense of home into everyday looks,” as the press release states.

“Our jewelry transports us to family dinners from the past,” the brand wrote on Instagram showing off the “Spoon” necklace.

In addition to turning kitchen cutlery into jewelry, the designer also transformed trinkets such as shells, pearls, wood pieces, and frosted glass beads from around the world, and fused the natural materials with gold chains and polished gems and beads to create keepsake earrings and rings. The designs transform “souvenirs from a beach picnic of the past” into modern “amulet”-like accessories to “provide a sense of protection” to the wearer.
