Prada Fall-Winter 2022 Menswear Show

On Sunday, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons presented a workwear-inspired runway show for Prada‘s Fall-Winter 2022 collection for Milan Men’s Fashion Week. The creative director duo emphasizes the value of work to society, reinventing the mundane 9-5 style you’ll want to wear in and out of the office. Much like its Fall 2012 Menswear collection— the luxury label enlisted stars including Jeff Goldblum and Sex and The City‘s Kyle MacLachlan (making their runway debut) and eight other actors took roles as models in Prada’s runway show.

Ahead, GRAZIA breaks down the main takeaways from Prada’s Fall-Winter menswear 2022 show.

Between Kyle MacLachlan, who opened the show in an oh-so chic black trench coat over a baby blue jumpsuit, and Jeff Goldblum, who closed the show in a head-to-toe black look featuring a fur-trimmed coat, the rest of the casting includes eight other globally-renown Hollywood stars: Asa Butterfield, Damson Idris, Kyle MacLachlan, Tom Mercier, Jaden Michael, Louis Partridge, Ashton Sanders, and Filippo Scotti.

The collection was dedicated to workwear

Not only is the collection inspired by workwear, but it’s also a celebration. “The collection celebrates the idea of working — in all different spheres and meanings. It is a practical, everyday thing. But here, you are formally important. You are not casual.” says Prada in an interview with Vogue

You don’t need me to tell you that idea of workwear has changed within the past couple of years. From boiler suits to business suits and everything in between the garments get spliced with the Prada and Raf treatment. “Garments exemplify a constructed modernism, their inherent architecture serving to define shape and form.” reads the post-show notes. “The body is given emphasis, shoulders and waist delineated through traditional tailoring, a silhouette then transmuted to everyday garments, the two disciplines not only juxtaposed but brought together as one. Through fabrication and methodology, an equal gravity is given to each genre of clothing – every facet of reality is offered significance, a sophistication and esteem, a lasting value.”

Coats, coats, and more coats

A standout (other than the strong A-lister lineup) of the luxury label’s FW ’22 collection was undoubtedly the coats. From big, bold shoulders to oversized belted trenches and every New Yorker’s winter wardrobe staple, puffers.

Prada defines the collection as “meaningful fashion.”

To simply just make garments has never been in the Prada DNA. There’s always been a deeper meaning behind each collection that plays into current events. “We were thinking about meaningful fashion, pieces that make sense. Clothes that make people feel important,” Prada explains in her interview.
