In the course of the promotional material for House of Gucci, we’ve been wondering why Lady Gaga hasn’t been wearing the Italian fashion house’s garments as part of her looks. Well, it looks like she’s been saving these looks for the premiere, and was it ever worth the wait.
At the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London, England, Gaga has shown up to the House of Gucci premiere in a flourishing and extravagant royal purple dress (by Gucci, of course) as big as her presence, solidifying her as the royalty she is as Patrizia Reggiani-Gucci.
Gaga spoke to Grazia UK about her role as Patrizia, stating “A lot about Patrizia has stayed with me. Her strength really stood with me. A lot of people don’t know this but when she married Maurizio Gucci, his entire family had turned their back on him, so she didn’t marry for money,” Gaga began. “When he was murdered they were divorced. So there was nothing financially at stake for her when all of this took place, which I found fascinating as a woman because then I thought ‘Oh well then it’s because she was hurt. Then it’s because it was love.’”
Paired with a pair of iconic and ever-so Gaga-esque black pleasers, Gaga commanded the red carpet as the star of the show. A garment full of texture, movement and dynamic, she finished off the look with a pair of sheer, bejeweled black opera-length gloves covered in various bracelets and accoutrements. With sleek, platinum blonde hair with a blunt bang and a statement necklace, Gaga knew exactly what she was doing with this appearance.
Part of Gaga’s appeal has always been the suspense, the build-up to the climax moment. We saw it with the egg performance, with the VMA Paparazzi moment, covered in fake blood at the last second. She knows how to feed the children, and keep us hungry for more.
