After over a year of staying indoors and not getting dressed, we’ve assessed and reassessed our closets. We’ve done the massive purge, have resold or donated, and ultimately feel relatively secure about where we’ve landed. But the thing about closet purging is that it’s an evolution. We’ve gotten rid of things that don’t serve us anymore to make room for whatever is next. It’s not an exact science where you trade one thing for another because, naturally, there are going to be things that are foundational but it clears a space to experiment with trends and seasonal dressing. With summer quickly approaching, there is a possibility to have a little more safe social flexibility with the distribution of the vaccine. That space we cleared up in our closets is itching to be filled with some fun pieces that have strong potential to become wardrobe staples.
Now, if you’re anything like me, I very much have the 7 Rings by Ariana Grande mentality of “I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it” when it comes to my closet. I see something and it consumes my thoughts until I get it. I’m approaching my summer wardrobe as sort of reintroduction to being safely social. It’s important to make a statement with some trendier pieces (granted ones that I will probably love beyond the season) but balance it out with the core summer staples of white t-shirts and denim shorts. Essentially, it’s all about color, short shorts, and ease. In other words, I want to show off the legs, I want to look like Rihanna always, and I want it all to be effortless. Ergo, my ideal summer wardrobe in 15 items that I’ve seen, I like, I want it, and now have to get.
