While some hotels still treat guest wellness as an amenity you have to seek out — and often pay extra for — Loews Hotels is embracing it as part of the experience. Its Active Stays by Loews Hotels program gives guests easy ways to keep moving, whether that means with a quick 10-minute workout before dinner or a mapped-out leisurely morning walk.

The centerpiece is a curated library of equipment-free workouts available through in-room TVs at Loews properties across the country. Created with fitness expert Makena Rae, the short, approachable sessions range from mobility exercises and bodyweight strength to stretching and recovery. Best of all, they’re all designed to work within the confines of a hotel room.

Active Stays is particularly appealing for travelers who are too busy to make it to the fitness center (or just don’t want to). The program reflects a broader shift in how many travelers now approach wellness on the road, with sleep, stress management, movement, and healthier food and drink options increasingly viewed as key aspects of a good travel experience rather than something to return to when back home.

“Active Stays by Loews Hotels was created around a simple idea: movement, play, and wellness help us become happier, healthier versions of ourselves,” says Kristie Goshow, chief commercial officer of Loews Hotels & Co. The goal, she adds, is to make wellness feel personal and achievable, while still being enjoyable.

And you don’t necessarily have to roll out a yoga mat to get in on the action. This fall, Loews is offering a range of experiences that connect guests with their surroundings.

At Loews Arlington Hotel in Texas, for example, guests can enjoy the city’s Walktober initiative by following walking maps that pass sports and entertainment venues, museums and other local attractions — or taking a stroll around Mark Holtz Lake in Richard Greene Linear Park. It’s an easy way to turn spare time into a little sightseeing and movement.

In the Big Apple, runners and running fans visiting for the November marathon can opt for the Marathon Package at Loews Regency New York Hotel, which can include a special carb-loading menu at The Regency Bar & Grill and recovery sessions at nearby AIRE Ancient Baths & Spa.

The appeal of Active Stays is that it’s less about squeezing another workout into an already packed itinerary and more about finding fun, destination-specific ways to make wellness a pleasurable part of the trip.
