Full-coverage foundation with a dry sponge? How 2016! Block brows? The horror! Covering your dark circles instead of using concealer for a fox-eye look? So dépassé! This bizarre new form of beauty bullying seems to have more in common with a trial by make-up tutorial than building a community on shareable, wearable tips. Elsewhere, thanks to the rise of the E-girl – a new subculture phenomenon gaining momentum on TikTok – blush has gone rogue, migrating from the once-polite placement on the apples of your cheeks to riding roughshod across your nose and careering out-of-control over the contours of your face. Each hue – from Rose Pommette that promises a “glow of emotion” to Rose Nuit conjuring “the voluptuousness of a bougainvillea by night” – is housed in a covetable compact-cum-objet d’art, and primed to make a whole new generation fall in love with Hermès.
