After what seems to be the longest and most humid summer, the UAE can finally expect the climate to reach moderate levels in the next few weeks.
With roughly four months of intense summer heat in the Middle East, reaching an astonishing 50 degrees at its peak, Arab astronomer Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society and member of the Sharjah Planetarium, shared an update on the changing weather.
According to Ibrahim’s projection from a month back, the Suhail star was expected to appear on August 24, 2024. With a few tell-tale signs, such as the dates ripening for harvest, Ibrahim took to X on the August 24 and mentioned that the Suhail Star officially appeared in the south of UAE.
“The Suhail Star was seen in the south of the UAE through a telescope and binoculars. It was seen clearly at dawn,” he said in the post.
Following the much-awaited sign of cooler weather, the appearance of the star means the temperatures will start to gradually decrease.
What is the Suhail Star?
The Suhail Star is approximately 313 light years away from Earth and is one of the brightest stars in the sky when visible.
Historically, the rise of the Suhail star has been used to signal the arrival of cooler weather. This star is crucial for farmers, fishermen, and travellers in the region, as it has traditionally been associated with the start of more temperate conditions.
When Will The Weather Cool Down?
In another X post, Ibrahim also mentioned the timeline of around 40 days to reach moderate levels after its rise. And approximately 100 days after will the winter season begin.
With the confirmation of the star, UAE residents can expect the temperatures to shift, leading to shorter days and longer, cooler nights.
