It has been announced by UAE authorities that public sector employees will have a three-day weekend to mark UAE National Day.

The public holiday will be observed on from Saturday, December 2 to December 4, with employees returning to work on Tuesday, December 5. It was also confirmed Friday, December 1 would be a remote working day for federal government employees.

“The UAE Cabinet approves the National Day holiday for the federal government from 2 to 4 December, 2023. Federal Government employees to resume work on Tuesday, December 5th,” a statement from the UAE Media Office read. “Friday, December 1st will be a remote working day for employees of ministries and federal entities.”

On Wednesday, November 22, it was announced by UAE authorities that December 2 and 3 would be marked as paid public holidays, but since this falls over Saturday and Sunday, it means there will be not an extended break for those whose typical weekend falls on those particular days.

The first day of the Gregorian calendar, New Year’s Day, observed on January 1, 2024, will be a public holiday for those in the UAE. Falling on a Monday next year, there will be a three-day weekend to start 2024, with employees in the public and private sectors returning to work on January 2, 2024.
