If there’s one thing we know about Meghan Markle, (aside from her unrivalled ability to pick a great outfit) it’s that she’s an activist who isn’t afraid to stand up for what she believes in.
While she readily speaks out about the causes that matter to her, this time the royal is letting her jewellery do the talking.
Eagle-eyed royal watchers couldn’t help but notice the Duchess of Sussex was wearing two new gold rings when she stepped out to a gender equality panel at Windsor Castle.
The rings were designed by Montréal-based company, Vargas Goteo, a brand aiming to create “statement pieces that start a conversation about conservation”.
Established by designer Alex Prijic Smith in 2010, Vargas Goteo has been a pioneer in the world of jewellery in highlighting the conservation of poached, illegally traded and irresponsibly sourced wildlife.
Each collection raises awareness while proceeds from each sale contribute directly to carefully selected ocean and wildlife organisation campaigns, include anti-shark finning, coral reef restoration, and anti-rhino poaching organisations.
According to Smith, Meghan sourced the rings herself. One of the designs she wore was the ‘Manta Kiss Stack Ring’, which supports manta ray conservation via The Manta Trust. The other, the ‘Bow Knot Ring’, is from the brand’s High Seas collection.
“To see my work out there and on such a remarkable woman really is a dream come true,” Smith says.
