The Modist is a Dubai-based luxury fashion e-commerce platform that was founded by Ghizlan Guenez to provide a platform for modest fashion within the Gulf.  Back in April 2020, the e-commerce platform announced via an Instagram statement that they were closing down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share with you that The Modist has permanently closed its virtual doors. After three incredible years of creating a global business and platform that empowers women, celebrates their choices and breaks stereotypes, we regret to inform you that the global crisis that has hit the world has left our young business vulnerable with no option but to cease operating,” said the statement.

The Modist was more than just an e-commerce platform, it was the platform every Muslim woman needed. The business often worked with designers, giving them direction on the design process and how to create a piece that accommodated their targeted customers.

Two years later, The Modist has announced in a vague Instagram post they will be coming back, which sparked interest within the modest fashion community.

Ghizlan Guenez, the founder of The Modist, is known for her expertise towards modest fashion and empowering Muslim women through their choice of clothing. Besides The Modist, Ghizlan has founded FForce, a space designed for ambitious women to connect, learn from one another and meet their potential.
“So here’s one of the main reasons that I created FForce: it’s the space I needed at many points in my life. Whether it is pushing for that promotion but feeling like it is too big a shoe for you to fill, starting your own business but feel like you don’t have what it takes to do it, shifting your career into a completely new space but too scared to risk it all and fail. This is the space for you, because that is exactly how I felt many times over during my career and life,” said Ghizlan in a statement.
