If you’re of a certain vintage, you probably think neon eyeshadow belongs in the same place as MySpace and velour tracksuits.

But ever since Huda Kattan announced the release of her Huda Beauty Neon Obsession palettes, day-glo inspired beauty looks have been popping up all over our Instagram feed.

A-listers like Kendall Jenner, Rihanna and Katy Perry have been dipping their make-up brushes into the trend, sporting popping shadows in an aray of high definition hues all summer long. But that doesn’t mean neon is a poolside flash in the palette.

Day-glo 2.0 is all about subtlety and sophistication, which translates as wearable and flattering shades and application styes that are still fun and playful to apply, but won’t have HR sending you a reminder email on what the appropriate dresscode for the workplace is.

And the easiest way to incorporate neon into a more neutral beauty look comes courtesy of neon French manicures. The perfect hybrid of chic and cheery, keep talons on the shorter side for a cool, minimalistic feel. A square shape will elevate this.

When it comes to eyes, go graphic with clean sweeps of vivid liners used on the crease of the eye. Or if you’re after something slightly more polished, opt for punchy pops of colour shadow along the lash line for a blended, smoky effect.
