Generous and comforting. Two words that should be synonymous with iftars – and on both fronts Avli by tashas delivers completely. The chic DIFC spot, that screams special occasion thanks to its muted tones and low-lit interiors oozes sophistication yet couples it with the abundance everyone associates with Greek feasts.

Their curated Ramadan menu encapsulates a series of best-of plates. Once you’ve broken your fast with the dates on the table, you’ll be brought a big bowl of roast red pepper soup, paired with toasted, olive-oil topped pita and tapenade. Every spoon was savoured. The next round comprises of a series of starters; tender lamb meatballs, their sesame-infused take on a Caesar salad and cheese-filled parcels. Our star dish from among these heavy-hitters was a grilled calamari topped with crisp potato strings and a rich tomato sauce, to be mopped up with warm brioche – a revelation.

You’ll be more than satiated at this stage but there is more; a main to share and if you’re torn between the tender lamb tomato stew teamed with orzo, or the lemon butter sea bass, then you’ll need to return to sample both superb dishes. You’ll end with traditional doughnuts – cinnamon sugar dusted loukoumades – that also come bedecked with gold slivers as befitting the occasion.

If you’re looking for an iftar that’ll satisfy not just your food cravings but feel celebratory, then a leisurely outing to this justifiably popular eatery should definitely be on the cards.
