The UAE’s development to empower Emirati women remains headstrong, and the woman leading the charge is Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Affirming the significant strides for women, Sheikha Manal recently addressed a pressing matter on gender equality at the G20 Empowerment of Women Working Group (EWWG) meeting in Brazil.
As the President of the UAE Gender Balance Council, Sheikha Manal poses as the spokesperson for regional change for women. As such her attendance at the meeting signifies the country’s efforts in the global discussion.
“The country has integrated the fight against extremism, hate speech, discrimination, and gender-based violence into its national laws,” the sheikha stated.
Reiterating the steps she has taken, Sheikha Manal mentioned she set these principles to nurture more inclusive societies.
She even noted the crucial role of Emirati women in the areas of sustainability, a goal the UAE has set in place, where she stressed the need to recognise women as important key players in the decision-making processes.
More so on the fact that the UAE is a country that prides itself on gender balance as a core pillar. Sheikha Manal declared, “We look forward to contributing to building a world where economic equality, autonomy, justice, and the absence of discrimination and violence are a lived reality for women everywhere.”
Who Is HH Sheikha Manal?
Married to HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Sheikha Manal is a private and outstanding leader and the eldest daughter of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Under her patronage, the Young Artist Award was founded and administers a platform for young and emerging artists in the UAE. Additionally, she founded the Dubai Women Establishment in 2006, pioneering the involvement of women in the creation of economic value and the greater society. An artist and advocate for women, she holds an Interior Design Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in Marketing from the American University in Dubai.
