The rhode to emulating Hailey Bieber’s perennially glazed complexion is about to become much clearer, with the Rhode skin founder officially confirming the skincare brand’s hydrating essence will drop next month.
Arguably the underdog in the world of skincare, an essence is a lightweight elixir designed with skin-treating ingredients to help smooth, soften and prepare your complexion for your subsequent serums, moisturisers and creams.
“Instant, yummy, glowing, glazed” is how the 26-year-old model-turned-mogul described the milky essence in a TikTok video, with the essential prep step becoming a sought-after staple in her skincare regime.
Bieber’s beauty label currently boasts a lineup of three power-packed staples, including the lusted-over Peptide Lip Treatment, nourishing Barrier Resort Cream and ultra-dewy Peptide Glazing Fluid.

Lit-from-within radiance is Bieber’s modus operandi when designing these affordable skincare drops, so we’re anticipating the hydrating essence to comprise of deeply-penetrating and dewy ingredients that pack a punch.
Neither Bieber nor the team at Rhode have explicitly tested the formulation of the new essence, however, there are a few clues scattered around the Saint Laurent muse’s Instagram and TikTok accounts that hint at what’s in store.

Another hint that the essence will be a velvety milk-inspired formula came from another TikTok video of Bieber applying the soon-to-launch product.
In the footage, Bieber can be seen floating around the Mediterranean on a yacht, massaging the product into her visage while wearing a graphic t-shirt that read “Got Milk”.
We may not have milk yet, but we’re betting Bieber’s millions of followers will soon be stockpiling this creamy essence when the product launches.

According to Fresh Beauty’s skin biologist, Dr. Anne-Laure Bulteau, an essence is a product that “deeply penetrates surface skin layers to boost your entire skin routine’s efficacy”.
“It provides immediate hydration and works as an essential prep step for other products,” Bulteau noted.

The main difference between an essence and a serum comes down to the formulation and application of each product. While essences are like a general primer in your skincare routine, a serum is a product that tackles specified concerns.
“Serums are a potent, concentrated formula that contains active ingredients and are designed to target specific skin needs, like hydration, anti-ageing, skin resilience, skin texture,” explained Bulteau.
