Raffles Doha has a way of helping the world feel quieter. Step into the lobby, and it’s clear this is a hotel built to impress, but it does so gently, with a sense of calm that washes over you as soon as you enter. So considered is Raffles’ welcome that even something as overt as a giant, sparkling indoor kaleidoscope doesn’t feel jarring. Instead, it rises peacefully skyward in the centre of the hotel’s atrium, projecting passing clouds in daylight and the galaxy after dark.

Doha may be booming with industry and possibility, but it still has an easy flow that surprises first-timers. Raffles Doha sits within the city’s iconic Katara Towers, the instantly recognisable U-shaped landmark on Doha’s skyline, which perches proudly on the water’s edge. On the ground floor, the enormous Raffles pool, complete with private cabana and floating sunbeds, stretches to the edge of an ocean-side walkway, which provides great people-watching as Doha’s locals promenade below.

The suites are made for doing very little and built around the spectacular view. Each one opens via a sweeping terrace onto clear aqua water at sunrise and skyline shimmer come dusk. Inside, the floor space is generous in that real five-star way, and each suite includes a personal butler, on hand to organise everything from beauty appointments to in-room dining. The room details feel opulent but still practical: designer yoga mats, a walnut shoe-shine kit, and his-and-hers robes that are plush and inviting. Bathrooms come laden with luxe beauty and grooming essentials, plus an enormous oval bath that’s perfect for long soaks with a good book.

Speaking of books, the Blue Cigar Lounge is a book-lover’s paradise, tucked to the left of the hotel’s grand lobby. Step inside and you’ll find the most luxurious of settings: blue velvet, pristine gold lamps and mahogany tables throughout, plus an impressive selection of cigars to sample. Best of all, the lounge is filled with rare and ancient books from around the globe, including a two-volume 18th-century copy of Homer’s The Iliad and the Odyssey in Greek and Latin.

The Raffles spa is the natural next stop, the first and only destination in Qatar to offer Dr Burgener Switzerland skincare. The spa offers a series of incredible treatment suites with heated bathing, steam rooms, hot-stone massages, a private changing area, and an outdoor terrace with sun loungers and a generously sized pool, all completely private for the guest.

Then there’s the dining. With five venues in total, there’s no shortage of choice, but Alba is the one to prioritise. The signature Italian restaurant was just awarded a Michelin Star, making it one of only three restaurants in Doha to hold the honour and notably the only star awarded in 2025. Head Chef Cristhian Serraino also took home the Michelin Young Chef Award at the ceremony in December, which makes Alba the booking to make. Do not miss the Vitello Tonnato (slow-braised veal with tuna sauce, capers and celery) for starters, followed by the Filetto di Wagyu, a charcoal-grilled wagyu tenderloin with hazelnut pesto and broccoletti, which simply has to be the best steak in Qatar!

Crafted exclusively for Raffles Doha, Alba’s philosophy is founded in simplicity and bold yet classic flavours. The menu draws inspiration from northern Italy, with a Chef’s Table option for those who want something more lively and immersive, an exclusive table set for two in the centre of the kitchen, right in front of the pass. Wine fans will also be in heaven, with a 300-label list on call and a cellar stocked with bottles often unavailable elsewhere in the region.

Raffles Doha captures a sense of splendour without the stiffness, a place that makes the city feel softer, a little slower, and more serene. The suites and the views are enough of a reason to book, but it’s the spa and fine dining at Alba that upgrade this from a nice-to-visit to a must-experience-at-least-once destination.
