NADINE KANSO HOPES WE FIND HUMANITY AND COMPASSION

Nadine Kanso is the Founder of Bil Arabi and her handmade jewellery that pays tribute to the art of Arabic calligraphy is almost as striking and breathtaking as she is. Here she recalls how working from home reminds her of first starting out, and how the global pandemic is an important lesson to live in the moment.

How are you finding the transition to a new way of working/life?
I am still at the stage where I think I can manage working from my dining room. It reminds me of the days when I started my brand, working from the guest bedroom at the time. It somehow feels strange, trying to be positive, but also realising how freedom is such a blessing and we have taking simple things for granted.

What have been the biggest challenges?
The challenges would be to turn the negatives into positives, to keep on moving forward with all what is happening in the world and obviously keeping the work going in terms of sales and so on.

What’s been the most pleasant surprise?
The urge to create, the luxury to have time to sit and be pensive, to imagine and to get that itch to be creative.

What are your hopes for the future?
I hope we all learn to actually live and enjoy the moment, not rush and race. For people to find humanity and compassion for each other and stop being so pretentious. Hope for the world that we never have to encounter such dangers, for governments to be prepared and invest in healthcare rather making wars.
