As Prince Harry prepares to celebrate his 40th birthday on September 15, details surrounding the Duke of Sussex’s plans have started to circulate within royal circles. The milestone event will reportedly be feted with a “party for family and friends” at his Montecito mansion, which is reportedly worth upward of Dhs51.5 million.
As Meghan Markle revealed in a 2022 profile, the 16-bedroom property–which also features a pool, children’s playground, tennis court, rose gardens, century-old olive trees and a tea house—provides her with a sense of “calm”. To preserve that “healing” energy of the residence, Prince Harry has also chosen to take a brief getaway and continue the festivities away from the tranquil setting.
It’s reported that the Spare author will take a trip away to the “mountains, surrounded by a handful of his closest friends”. It’s not clear if the Duchess of Sussex will attend the small escape, though she did something similar during the coronation weekend of King Charles III by swapping Westminster Abbey for a hiking trip.

Nevertheless, it’s apparent the California-based couple have collectively decided their birthdays will be celebrated in a more low-key style since stepping down as senior members of the British monarchy in 2020.
Meghan was thrown an intimate soirée by her husband to toast her 43rd birthday in August this year. The epitome of American Riviera glamour, Prince Harry is said to have organised an “at-home cookout” for the recent venture capitalist. A source close to the pair revealed that this exclusive gathering was a result of their love for barbecuing during the summer months and Prince Harry’s desire to ensure “that Meghan is celebrated”.
The Suits alumni will undoubtedly return the favour. The function follows the Sussex’s recent tour to Colombia at the request of Vice President Francia Elena Márquez. During the visit to the vibrant cities of Bogotá, Cartagena and Cali, the Archewell Foundation co-founders immersed themselves in the rich cultural tradition of the country and continued their philanthropic mission of ‘showing up, doing good’.
