April’s first celestial event is on the horizon, literally and figuratively.
With spring in full bloom, Dubai’s night skies will be graced with a spectacle known as the Pink Moon, signifying the first full moon of the season.
Set to occur this weekend on April 13, 2025, GRAZIA brings you everything you need to know about the Pink Moon.
What Is A Pink Moon?
Contrary to what many may think, the moon won’t actually turn pink. The name Pink Moon derives from the vibrant pink flowers called ground phlox (also known as the Creeping Phlox), which is native to North America. The wildflower usually blossoms in early spring, thus resulting in the moniker Pink Moon.
Why is the Pink Moon so special in 2025?
Aside from marking the start of the spring season, this year’s Pink Moon is also a Micro Moon. This means the moon will be at its farthest point from Earth, which will appear quite smaller and dimmer. According to Khadijah Hasan Ahmad from Dubai Astronomy Group, she stated per Time Out Dubai, “The moon will be visible in the western sky before setting, so an unobstructed view of the horizon will provide the clearest sight.”
