The world of cinema is no stranger to a wide range of fashion and celebrity biopics. In the last few years alone we’ve had House of Gucci, Elvis, I Wanna Dance With Somebody and more.
And now the life of one of the most legendary fashion designers, Monsieur Christian Dior, will be portrayed on the big screen. Below, GRAZIA details everything we know about the upcoming biopic so far.
Here’s what we know so far
According to Forbes, the project is still very much in its early phase. The upcoming biopic is being spearheaded by French actress and producer Elsa Zylberstein, who has onboarded writer Julien Teisseire to pen the script, while Zylberstein’s Sonia Films and Odile McDonald will be developing the film.
Zylberstein is famed for her captivating performances in television, film and theatre. She has earned critical acclaim and a great many awards by gracing a myriad of noteworthy films including Mina Tannenbaum, I’ve Loved You So Long and Farinelli.
In an interview with Variety magazine, Zylberstein shared some of the details of the upcoming biopic which will explore the life of the “fiercely private” Monsieur Dior. Set in a post-World War II in Paris in 1947, the film will showcase the beginnings of Monsieur Dior building his empire alongside Raymonde Zehnacker, known to be the designer’s right-hand woman, who will be portrayed by Zylberstein herself.
“We like to say that behind every successful man there’s a woman, and that was also true for Dior,” she said in the interview.
Zylberstein herself has an affinity with the house of Dior, her mother previously worked for the Maison in fragrance. The producer and actress notes that while Monsieur Dior was perhaps “not a flamboyant character like other fashion designers or popular cultural icons… he was no less fascinating”.
The biopic will highlight his accomplishments and the influences that led him to forge a legacy enduring to this day.
