Clearly the rather shortsighted belief that fashion was a young man’s game was poorly mistaken when you have the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Steve Tyler and Jared Leto proving that style doesn’t die just because you’re out of your 30s. Or forties.

Now 57, the father of style icon Zoë Kravitz has never shied away from using fashion as a tool of expression and his current turn on the red carpet at the 64th Grammy Awards continues his tradition of flamboyance. The man knows how deliver an outfit. Usually a tight one, involving leather, silk, some scarves and an overdose of accessories.

Rocking up the red carpet like the star he is, Kravitz was sporting a custom-made silver knit cowl-neck top by Natalia Fedner with skintight leather pants and heeled black boots. It’s the sort of post-apocalyptic peak rock ‘n’ roll styling you’d imagine his Hunger Games character Cinna would design. It’s also a look that has been somewhat missing in the menswear department on red carpets.

Fellow icon Steve Tyler of Aerosmith also presented the case for good old fashioned glam rock glamour. Just like Kravitz, Tyler has continually embraced the stage persona that he had invented in his early days, maintaining the same over-the-top flamboyance and styling in his real life that he would don while performing. Now at 74, he shows no sign of slowing down. That, my friends, is called true method acting.

Speaking of method, the 50-year-old Jared Leto and star of WeCrashed rounds out the squad. Putting on a brave face in lieu of the damning reports of his new film Morbius tanking at the cinema, Leto should maybe reconsider going back to his band 30 Seconds To Mars. By all accounts, they weren’t half bad. Now with a flop in both the DC and Marvel cinematic universes, if Leto is the sort of person who believes the universe speaks to him this would be a loud and clear message.

But he does look good tonight. Good for him.
