Mona Kattan has officially taken us down memory lane. The entrepreneur and global president of Huda Beauty reveals all the mistakes she made in her 20’s. After chatting with her life coach Kira Jean, they discussed the importance of getting vulnerable and speaking up about your failures, even more than your wins, because they are equally as important.

Kattan is dedicated to sharing her mistakes from relationships, work, business, family, and finances, which will become a regular discussion on her channel. By doing so, Mona hopes to make others feel comfortable to share their own challenges – allowing the conversation of mistakes to become normalised now more than ever.

After sharing her latest YouTube video, “Biggest Mistakes I Made in My 20’s & How To Avoid Them”, Mona drops some major knowledge.

Ahead, find 4 of the biggest takeaways we had from her video.

1. Not saying “No” in a different frame

Learning how to say no politely can sometimes feel like an overwhelmingly complex task. But when you start to feel overworked and burnt out, you can’t help but feel extremely frustrated, and Mona has been there. Kattan shares how in her 20’s she felt the need to jump into serious relationships and even work relationships because she felt obligated, rather than taking her time and “shopping around.” Her biggest tip is to not rush into things; even when it comes to dating and certain jobs, you don’t have to say yes to the first offer you get! Instead, shop around and make sure to always put yourself first (to a certain extent), rather than putting others before you.

 2. Create healthy habits in your 20’s

When we’re in our 20’s it can be easy for us to fall off when it comes to our healthy habits – I mean, we’ve all been there. But in reality, were developing habits that will carry on throughout our lives (which is a pretty big deal). For example, Mona shares how, in her 20’s she heavily prioritised her health but once graduating from university, she fell off for almost ten years and admitted to not taking care of her body, sharing that “you really do pay the price when you get older.”

Staying conscious of your wellness is essential, and as cliché as it sounds, health is truly wealth, Mona shares how creating healthy habits in your 20’s is key to setting yourself up for life.

 3. Trust your gut

When it comes to trusting your gut, you should, without a doubt, do so. Mona shares how one of her biggest regrets in her 20’s was not listening to her gut, as she slowly realised that it was a compass of her feelings all along “Don’t disconnect yourself from your feelings, pay attention to red flags and trust your gut.”

Without even noticing, our gut is a form of our subconscious; it picks up on things we don’t even notice and tries to speak to us as a way of guidance. Kattan can’t emphasise enough how important it is to stay connected to your emotions, because as cliché as it sounds, all of your answers are truly within; all you need to do is simply trust yourself.

 4. Never compare yourself to anyone else

Nowadays, it’s really hard to be on social media and not compare yourself to others. We find ourselves triggered by the littles things, which makes us feel a certain way about ourselves. One way to prevent these emotions is by identifying what triggers you and becoming aware of them. Mona shares, “Try to learn from yourself. If there’s an area where you are comparing yourself to other people, pay attention to that because that’s telling you what you’re looking for in life.” When you figure out what’s triggering you, you can work through those emotions, develop a plan and avoid anything that bothers you in the future.
