It’s no secret that both Huda Beauty and Kayali have carved out their spaces in the beauty world, but it seems change is on the horizon.

Both brands were founded by sisters Huda and Mona Kattan, first with Huda Beauty over a decade ago followed by Kayali in 2018 which sat under the Huda Beauty empire. However, it seems the two brands are officially parting ways.

The Dubai-based beauty moguls took to Instagram to share the news. “Mona and I are together here today because we have a very important announcement about Huda Beauty and Kayali,” Huda began.

Mentioning that the plan had already been discussed, she added, “We’ve been talking and planning for a couple of years – almost two years now, if not longer.”

“We wanted to talk to you guys directly because you’re our community and are so important to us. You guys are the reason why we’re here,” Huda stated. Announcing the business separation, Huda finally revealed, “Huda Beauty and Kayali are [officially] breaking up.”

After building Huda Beauty together, launching it in 2013 following years of groundwork, the sisters admitted that working side by side wasn’t always seamless—especially with Mona’s growing passion for fragrance. “It hasn’t always been easy working together because she has so much vision and passion,” Huda confessed.

Mona, who has always dreamed of creating a fragrance empire, explained that becoming independent was essential to her growth—both professionally and personally.

“I realised through years of therapy that I was too co-dependent on my sister,” she shared. Huda agreed, adding, “I remember telling Mona, ‘People don’t believe in Kayali – you need to make it happen.’ And she wanted us to do it together, but I told her, ‘No, you have to make it happen.’”

Huda lovingly said to her sister, “I’m so excited to see you bring your vision to life limitlessly, without anybody holding you back.”

Mona, who has always been the face and creative force behind Kayali, will remain CEO and lead the brand into its next phase with General Atlantic, a US-based company.

Meanwhile, over at Huda Beauty, Huda will claim full founder ownership.
