From Harry Styles in Rome with Alessandro Michele to Jennifer Lawrence in Scotland with Dior, it appears that the celebrity set has already begun the annual transatlantic pilgrimage and commenced the European Summer season early. However, for Californian-based couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, it appears they may be vacationing in place at home in Montecito after reports claim the pair did not receive an invitation to attend Trooping the Colour.

For the uninitiated, Trooping the Colour is a yearly event hosted by the British Monarchy in celebration of the royal family. The ceremonial parade is thrown to mark the official birthday of British sovereignty, with fanfare and a regal procession down The Mall culminating in an appearance from senior working royals on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Given Prince Harry and Meghan stepped back from their roles in 2020—an event colloquially then referred to as ‘Megxit’—the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made sporadic appearances at royal events. The last attended Trooping the Colour in 2022, which coincided with Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

Meghan joined Prince Harry for the funeral of the late royal, though she did not attend the coronation of King Charles III, instead opted to spend the weekend hiking around Santa Barbara with friends.

Given King Charles and Kate Middleton’s recent health struggles, it was unclear whether this year’s Trooping the Colour would proceed. The United Kingdom’s general election is also scheduled for June, leading to further confusion about whether the monarchy would be robust enough to throw the event. The British Army confirmed the event was still on the calendar in May, though did not confirm who would watch the military fly past from the gallery.

A new report published overnight claimed the Princess of Wales was “considering” making a public appearance amid her treatment and recovery but did not comment on the attendance of Prince William or the couple’s three children,  Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6. All eyes will be on Buckingham Palace come June 15 to see whether the “missing” Princess will attend the event.
