Though royal life wasn’t quite for her, there is one custom that Meghan Markle took to like a duck to water: dressing with a message. And while she hasn’t been a working royal since she and her husband, Prince Harry, stepped down from their duties, Markle isn’t opposed to exercising this particular tradition, as showcased by her latest outfit.
While grabbing lunch with actor and philanthropist Kimberly Williams-Paisley in Montecito, Markle cut a smart-casual figure in a breezy white button-up shirt by Anine Bing tucked into high-rise tapered jeans from La Ligne. As she stepped out of Italian restaurant Tre Lune (see photos here), she revealed a subtle tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
Keeping with her ‘quiet luxury’ style, the former Duchess paired the staples with two-toned Chanel ballet flats, black Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses, and an assortment of gold jewellery—including her trust Cartier Juste Un Clou collar necklace.
The homage to the Princess of Wales came in the form of Markle’s handbag: the Dior Lady Dior bag, which was actually named after the late royal when, in September 1995, the then-first lady of France gifted her the yet-to-be-released Dior bag. From everyday outings to formal engagements, the style icon went on to become synonymous with the silhouette, which has since become a timeless classic on everyone’s wishlist.
Markle’s iteration, which she first debuted in 2021, also happens to boast a significant detail: a custom monogram of ‘DSSOS’ to represent her former HRH title.
