The happy news that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set to welcome their second child came accompanied by a touching photograph of the pair, with the Prince casually cradling Markle’s head in his lap. The shot was quickly beamed all around the world with the news, and now the photographer behind the image has shared its beautiful backstory.

In a recent interview, London-based Misan Harriman – a longtime friend of the couple who first met Markle at a charity event several years ago – shot the image remotely via an iPad, with the expectant pair based in Santa Barbara. “With the tree of life behind them and the garden representing fertility, life and moving forward, they didn’t need any direction, because they are, and always have been, waltzing through life together as absolute soulmates,” Harriman said.

Harriman recalled that Markle – who was barefoot and dressed in a flowing Carolina Herrera dress with a loving hand on her bump – and her Royal husband might not even have been aware at the time of the historic shot that he was capturing. “When you see people who have the connection that they have, it’s like reading the pages of a book,” he said, saying that the relaxed nature of the images allowed him to showcase “their truth”.

After Markle recently detailed her devastating miscarriage, Harriman felt taking on the job of shooting this joyous occasion was particularly special. “To be asked to help share this absolute joy after such an unimaginable loss and heartache is a marker of true friendship,” he said. “Meg reminded me that had I not introduced her to a mutual friend then she wouldn’t have met Harry. I’m grateful for whatever small part I played.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have yet to confirm any further details about the arrival of their second child, but they’re set to sit down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey in the coming weeks – so here’s hoping we’ll know more about the new Royal baby soon.
