Masoom Minawala has taken the fashion world by storm, but most recently, the Cannes Film Festival’s red carpet too. The Indian fashion content creator and business woman has garnered over a million followers on Instagram, been named as one of Forbes’ 30 under 30, become an ambassador for the United Nations, and these are just a few of Minawala’s biggest accolades to date. Most recently, Minawala was named ‘Most Authentic Fashion Influencer’ at the World Influencers and Bloggers Awards (WIBA) 2022 in Cannes. It’s clear that there is no stopping her, and so we decided to ride the wave with her. Below, we asked the Indian sensation all about her experience at Cannes, her red carpet style and what representing her country on such a globally prestigious event means for her.

How many Cannes film festivals have you attended?

This was the third time that I walked the red carpet at the Cannes film festival and my experience every year has been distinctively reflective of my personal growth.

What was your all-time favourite look that you wore to the Cannes Film Festival over the years?

It has to be the cape-saree that I adorned last year. There’s something magical about wearing a saree to the red carpet, especially when it has a contemporary twist and is designed by Indian designer Manish Malhotra.

What is a special moment you recall from the event?

The first time I attended Cannes, I still remember how 2 months’ worth of prepping flashed in just 200 seconds and I was equal parts excited and overwhelmed. That is something that I’ve built my Cannes journey on.

Describe your looks for this year’s festival. Why did you choose these designs?

I am someone who absolutely LOVES experimenting. So all my looks are chosen on how they challenge me. I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone a lot while embracing my dynamic style and that’s the statement that my looks will be making.

What does it mean to you to see more representation from your country at an international event as big as this one?

Attending this year’s Cannes Film Festival filled my heart with so much of joy, celebrating my country as the spotlight for global cinematic and digital experiences was such a proud moment.  The Indian representation this year was tenfold, the gravitas at which the media industry and cinematic excellence was celebrated at a global scale was just tremendous. We are a land of storytellers and the world is here to witness that.
