Cotillard explained exclusively to GRAZIA, “Chanel is a house that has always fascinated me, that has always made me dream. It’s hard to describe, it’s like a dream made real. There’s something quite magical about Chanel: this house has the power to amaze. I wore the perfume Coco, that was my first encounter with Chanel. And my first connection with Chanel is a film, Pretty Things by Gilles Paquet-Brenner, for which the house of Chanel lent jewellery for my character. At the time, they invited me to fashion shows which had a big impact on me as a fashion novice. I was fascinated by Chanel’s aura and the magic that surrounds her. And the house also accompanied me throughout the American adventure in La Vie en Rose.”

In February 2020, Cotillard was appointed a CHANEL ambassador where she became the Face of CHANEL’s Numéro 5 perfume campaign, directed by Johan Renck and took part in the digital amplification program. “Being a muse, representing a perfume, is a very beautiful role and it’s also amazing to meet all the wonderful people who bring this house to life. It’s the first time I’ve been involved with a perfume. N°5 tells and symbolises the history of the house and has strong links with the film world. This is the beginning of the adventure for me but it is already so strong and so beautiful.”
