margot robbie barbie

Last week, the internet went wild when the first image of an oiled-up, fake-tanned, Ryan Gosling as Barbie’s Ken was released to promote Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film about the iconic children’s doll.

The photo, which shows Gosling wearing double denim, Ken branded Calvin Klein-like underwear, and with a bad boy-esque smile on his face comes after the first look at his co-star Margot Robbie as Barbie, which showed the Australian actress sitting in her pink car and smiling at the camera.

Eva Mendes, who’s been in a relationship with Gosling since 2012, later shared it to her Instagram, writing, “So. F. Funny. So. F. Good. So F excited for you to see this…#Thatsmyken.”

But if you thought that was all we’d get from the film set for now, you’d be wrong. Photographers managed to capture Robbie dressed as Barbie in between takes, leaving her trailer wearing a hot pink two-piece made up of a vest and bellbottoms that, as someone pointed out on Twitter, wouldn’t be amiss at a Harry Styles concert.

The response to the unexpected pics? “Oh, this movie is going to be perfect.”

Despite Robbie’s peroxide blonde hair and hot pink attire that you’d expect from a real-life Barbie, the actress has been open about the movie likely not following the script you’d expect.

“[Barbie] comes with a lot of baggage!” she told British Vogue. “And a lot of nostalgic connections. But with that come a lot of exciting ways to attack it.”

“People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t…’”

Alongside Robbie and Gosling, the film will also feature a slew of famous faces, including Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emerald Fennell, America Ferrera, Issa Rae, Hari Nef, Sex Education’s Emma Mackey, Michael Cera and Ncuti Gatwa. It’s also been reported Saoirse Ronan and Dua Lipa will appear on screen, too.
