Maggie Gyllenhaal can do no wrong. While the attention may be on fellow female director Jane Campion this evening (please let her win the best Director Oscar for her excellent film The Power Of The Dog), Gyllenhaal shone on the carpet today at the 2022 Academy Awards.
Wearing a black, avant-garde, off-the-shoulder gown by Schiaparelli, Gyllenhaal joined her husband Peter Sarsgaard for Hollywood’s night of nights.
Her latest film, The Lost Daughter, which was released at the end of 2021 has three Oscars nominations this evening: Best Actress (Olivia Colman); Best Supporting Actress (Jessie Buckley); and Best Adapted Screenplay. The psychological drama (also written by Gyllenhaal) united a brilliant cast (including Dakota Johnson, Buckley and Colman) to tell the story of a lone traveller who becomes all-consumed with a young mother and daughter at a local holiday resort. Watching their relationship, the protagonist becomes overwhelmed with her own memories of family trauma and early motherhood.
Watch this space. Maggie will likely go home with the goods. You can watch The Lost Daughter now on Netflix.
