Master Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud marked a new era of luxury fragrance for Louis Vuitton when he released a collection of scents as part of the Les Extraits collection. To celebrate the first anniversary of the release – and such a meticulous art form – it was only fitting that the French fashion house commission architect Frank Gehry and Murano glass Master Simone Cenedese for a limited-edition and numbered bottle.
Louis Vuitton Les Extraits Murano Art Edition elevated one single fragrance, Symphony, with a beautiful curved bottle bearing the signature of Gehry and an original bottle cap hand moulded in Murano glass. Each bottle is unique and resembles a mesmerising kaleidoscopic flower blooming from the bottle, echoing the architect’s affinity for natural forms.
“When we first designed the perfume bottle for Louis Vuitton Les Extraits Collection,” recalls Frank Gehry, “I had a dream of making the tops in vivid colours. Now, in collaboration with Simone Cenedese and his glass artisans, we have finally been able to realize that vision. The colours that the team has created are beautiful and ever-changing.”
Cenedese and three of his skilled artisans were tasked with bringing this vision to life with techniques at the heart of traditional Venetian glassmaking. The entire collaboration was an artful exploration between Grasse, in the south of France, where Jacques Cavallier Belletrud experiments with the possibilities of fragrance; of Los Angeles, long-time home and inspiration to Frank Gehry; and of the Venetian lagoon that surrounds Simone Cenedese’s atelier.
“I worked on this Les Extraits Collection through revolutionising the architecture of classic perfumes, highlighting the raw beauty of the greatest natural resources and revealing new olfactory forms like an augmented reality; all exalted by the genius of Frank Gehry, combined with the talent of the master of glass and colours, Simone Cenedese,” explains Jacques Cavallier Belletrud.
