At this point it’s to be expected, but we’re still blown away by how hard Lizzo slays on red carpets. The woman can seemingly do no wrong, this time dominating the MTV Video Music Awards in voluminous, decadent Jean Paul Gaultier.

Lizzo is up for two major awards – Artist Of The Year and Song Of The Year for her huge hit, ‘About Damn Time’, which dominated TikTok and the charts earlier this year. Naturally, she needed a red carpet dress that embodied that level of industry domination. This is definitely it.

The high drama gown was constructed by Glenn Martens, originally for the fashion house’s Spring/Summer ’22 collection – his first foray into couture as he took on guest designer credentials.

Lizzo chose to lean into the ethereal shape and moody black-blue hue, teaming the gown with colour-matched lips, a faux lip ring and sleek, wet-look hair.

Sheer navy gloves and gold statement jewellery completed the look, and while we’re not entirely sure how she’s going to sit down during the show without disappearing into all that material, we’re pretty confident she’s already taken out best on ground from a fashion perspective.

It’s been a rough week for Lizzo, with comedian Aries Spears using the artist as a punchline in a recent interview, before attacking the body positivity movement. Seemingly in response, Lizzo posted a TikTok working out, captioning it ““Hope ur day is better than mine i feel like shit,” before Tweeting “Crying myself to sleep was so fun last night I think I’ll do it again tonight.”

Hopefully tonight sees the beautiful and talented artist taking home an armful of awards, the best kind of revenge.
