Kate Middleton, one of the world’s most famous brunettes, seems to have traded in her deep brown locks for a brighter blonde hue.
Yesterday, the Princess of Wales unveiled her most striking hair transformation yet: a golden bronde mane, caught in a candid snap while leaving a quiet church service with her husband, Prince William, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
From the passenger seat of their car, the royal’s hair—worn loose in her signature glossy waves under a black pillbox hat—revealed a colour shift. No longer her trademark chestnut, but not quite full blonde either, the hue rests in the trending middle ground where a light brown meets fresh-from-a-sunny-sojourn highlights.

But the transformation hasn’t been sudden. At Wimbledon in July, eagle-eyed onlookers noted that Kate’s brunette locks had been softened to a much lighter shade. But yesterday’s bronde debut marks her boldest departure yet.
July also marked the family’s last public outing, when Kate and William attended the championships alongside their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Since then, the Wales family has retreated into their summer holiday, away from royal duty, while the royal continues her ongoing recovery.

Perhaps amid the great news that she is cancer-free, Middleton opted to mark the new chapter with a bold external change—as many of us are wont to do. But as for when she’ll be officially debuting the look? That’s anyone’s guess.
