The first big development of the year unfolds this week as Mars retrograde reaches its season finale (13 January AEST; 12 January GMT). Storylines highlighting your relationship to productivity and/or your willingness to assert yourself come to the fore. For people who don’t like confrontation, getting into it might be an unavoidable discomfort. For those who relish the chance to have it out, there’ll be plenty of opportunity to speak your mind.

Like the last episode of the season, you could find yourself reliving a montage of the past 10 weeks. At first glance, it could feel irritating, but the real question you’re being asked is, ‘What did you learn from it all?’ Like any good TV series, there is a moral to the story, your task is to figure out exactly what it is.

ARIES AND ARIES RISING

As your ruling planet grinds to a halt, your energy or patience (or both) will plummet. Things could feel difficult, people extra “people-y”, and your temper could flare. If everyone you meet seems super salty, consider the common denominator (or person) in each exchange, and don’t be surprised if even the meekest acquaintances take things the wrong way.

TAURUS AND TAURUS RISING

If your travel plans have been in a state of flux, there’s a juicy window early in the week to get things back on track. Coming at the problem from a totally different perspective could pay dividends, but you’ll have to think outside the box. Just make sure your fabulous new itinerary won’t cost more than you can afford.

GEMINI AND GEMINI RISING

Sometimes you have to reach your limit before you move on. This week is one of those times when you could feel like you’re being stretched like a rubber band. The good news is, no sign is more flexible than you. When you feel the tension, allow yourself to bend with it rather than fighting the flex.

CANCER AND CANCER RISING

If insomnia, anxiety or general blahness has had you feeling off your game the past couple of months, rest assured an end to the edginess is well and truly in sight. But before you get there, this week could test your coping muscles. Lean on the people who calm your nerves – especially Wednesday onwards – and try not to use unhealthy habits to check out.

LEO AND LEO RISING

If the vibe with mates has been a little frosty of late, proceed with caution. A few poorly chosen words could make friends feel more like frenemies this week as Mars causes mischief in your social sector. The situation could get too intense for things to remain unsaid, especially from Wednesday onwards.

VIRGO AND VIRGO RISING

Good news! The roadblocks you’ve been facing at work the past 10 weeks or so are about to shift. Bad news: you just have to deal with one final speedbump before you start to make real progress. A confrontation may be necessary in order to move forward. Stay kind, stay flexible and you’ll be fine.

LIBRA AND LIBRA RISING

The combative mood this week could embolden even the mellowest Librans to revisit an issue that’s been giving you grief. While it may be uncomfortable, remember sometimes you need to have it out before you can move forward. Revisiting an uncomfortable conversation with family from a different perspective could be majorly productive.

SCORPIO AND SCORPIO RISING

A wound that’s been tucked away below the surface could be reopened this week. As you’re forced to peel the Band-Aid off, figuratively speaking, it may feel a little icky. Once you move beyond the discomfort, you’ll soon see what you need to speed up the healing process.

SAGITTARIUS AND SAGITTARIUS RISING

If you’ve been butting heads with your significant other (romantic or platonic) things may come to a head this week. Having it out will ultimately clear the air. If things haven’t been tense between you, expect to be on call for your nearest and dearest as they deal with a potentially tricky week.

CAPRICORN AND CAPRICORN RISING

Hell hath no fury like a colleague caught out. As Mars makes one final “harumph” in your work sector, avoiding office politics will require military precision on your part. Minimise the drama by slowing down, keeping a low profile and distancing yourself from toxic colleagues.

AQUARIUS AND AQUARIUS RISING

A style reboot could be as good as a holiday early in the week with the moon and Venus inspire you to do things differently. New hair, new nails or a little glow-up make the perfect distraction from the general bleh vibes that could feel wildly contagious this week.

PISCES AND PISCES RISING

Your reserves of patience and compassion could be tested this week. With Mars stationing in your home sector, family, flatmates or even your parents could behave more like children. It’s as good a time as any to step up to the plate and get it all out in the open.
